Look at similar examples of postcard!

Okay, I was really confused what is postcard for advertisement – what shall we put on it? And what is the purpose of this idea? How to start? Where to start?

After Google it, a lot of them are not postcard for advertisement at a short film festival,  and that’s because I didn’t type the right term in it so how about ‘Short film promotion postcard’?

Here we go!

And by this term, I found two example postcards for advertisement at a short film festival and they are different styles, which will be worth to have a look:

‘Reflection of the life’ Postcard

(size: 4×6)

Apparently, it is inspired by French New Waves and it follows the style of classic cinema. The image they use might from a part of the film and it is like wash painting, which is the style of 90s in America, very impressive image.

The basic information is provided such as title, director and company who presents and starring. The fonts match the image well, it seems ‘old’(classic, stylish) and the movement of the title is nice, but I don’t think we can play around with that since our title is two words ‘The Epiphany’.

The different colour on fonts is also eye-catching! They tend to emphasise the production company, which is in red, at least I took notice of the red bit first. Two people sitting on the balcony, seen as their back, also give information that there are two main characters so I guess the storyline is between this man and woman.

‘GIFT’ postcards

(size: 5×4)

Unlike ‘Reflection of the life’,  GIFT is focus on characters, using different layers to emphasise their facial expression. The image is not as classic as the other one and its colour is more blue and dark, which creates a mysterious atmosphere.

The fonts is modern and the title is glowing a bit as well as the tagline that does not appear in Reflection of the life.

The credits are shown subtly under the tagline, right at the bottom of the postcard, and the fonts is fixed by transparency. The structure of the information gives audiences a good impression indeed.

It also has a brief outline of the story that does not deliver too much information but it is enough to intrigue audiences to watch it at the short film festival! And tagline is simple but it tells us that the film is about storytelling, very secret one. I think we are also gonna make a tagline to attract audiences!

And this is the blog talking about postcards(A2 media blog – postcard), even though we used different examples, the idea still works, which is to choose the useful elements from similar examples that can be applied to our film!

After research, I found out that the size is not exactly the same, some are 4×6, some are 5×4, therefore we have choices to take either of them, or we go with the standard size of the card that tends to be 4×6.
